Sometimes I feel like a candle burning at both ends, Other times it feels as though the candle is gone As though nothing is left but a sad puddle of wax to eventually dry out and crumble. I am full of anxiety and stress as I tumble through life Unsure of where I am going or what I am doing, Just sure that I am running too fast towards a goal I don’t know. Working myself into an early grave with my need to be busy And pushing away all of my friends because I feel like a bother. I am nothing but stress and mess and a jumble of issues, Just a sad little candle about to burn itself out.

I quite never imagined myself as a mother, Always somehow thought of myself as something other, Thought I was too wrapped up in life. Always aiming to be perfect and focused And great. Thinking a baby just wasn’t quite right. At least for now. Yet here I am at the ripe young age of twenty two With a baby so unexpected yet so loved. So wanted and perfect and wholesome and new. She makes me a better person that I never even knew I needed. She gives me a reason To get up each morning and to keep on living. I didn’t expect her and even questioned whether to keep her But before I knew it she was my everything. Just a few measly months have made my heart grow Made me glow with pride over the simplest of things That comes with parenthood and newfound love. I love her and I am proud to be her mother.
